Terms of Use

By using How Many of Me, you agree to these terms.

What this site is

How Many of Me is an informational tool that estimates how many people in the United States share a given name, using publicly available government datasets. It is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Social Security Administration, the U.S. Census Bureau, or any government agency.

Estimates, not official statistics

Figures shown on this site are statistical estimates derived from public data and documented modeling assumptions. Surname base counts are exact Census figures; first-name living-bearer counts and full-name combination counts are modeled estimates with documented margins of error.

You must not use this site or its figures for identity verification, fraud prevention, legal proceedings, employment decisions, or any purpose where an official record is required.

Acceptable use

You agree not to scrape the site at volume, disrupt the service, or present the site's figures as official government statistics.

Intellectual property

The underlying datasets are public records of the U.S. government. The site's design, text, processed data files and presentation of the methodology belong to the project. You may quote figures with attribution and a link; bulk reproduction of our curated leaderboard pages is not permitted without permission.

No warranty; limitation of liability

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, merchantability, or fitness for a particular purpose. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the project shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use of the site or reliance on its figures.

Changes

Continued use of the site after changes are posted means you accept the revised terms. Questions? Use the contact page.
